The Venue

The year 2020 marks IECBES’ 10th year of commitment to being the premier biomedical engineering and sciences conference in this region. Through the years we have carefully established strategic partnerships with key authorities and figures in the field to share cutting-edge research and innovation in biomedical engineering, healthcare technology and medical informatics to facilitate and push boundaries in biomedical engineering and sciences research. The conference has come a long way since its humble inception in 2010,held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In this commemorative year - we are celebrating the success and achievements of all our delegates, past and present. It is with this pride and honour that we invite you to Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah.

Langkawi, is a district and an archipelago of 99 islands (+ 5 small islands visible only at low tide) in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. By far the largest of the islands is the eponymous Langkawi Island (Pulau Langkawi), with a population of some 64,792; the only other inhabited island being nearby Tuba Island. The islands are a part of the state of Kedah. Langkawi has plenty to offer in terms of adventure, fun, leisure and food - the perfect elements for kickstarting a new collaborative effort or even forming a new network connection.

Getting to Langkawi

There are several ways of reaching Langkawi - by air, by ferry and even by a cruise ship. You can also drive down of take a train up to a point in the north western coast line of Malaysia’s mainland and then take a short ferry to reach Langkawi. You can look up more options on your preferred travel options here.

If you are already in Kuala Lumpur and choose to travel by air, then you will be departing either from KLIA, KLIA 2 or Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang Jaya, depending on your airline. If by sea, then your journey starts by an overnight sleeper train from KL Sentral train station.

Staying in Langkawi

The conference will be held in XYZ Hotel, District. The committee has already negotiated a special rate for all our delegates at the conference venue hotel. To enjoy the special rates, please fill in the group booking form and submit it via email to the hotel’s reservation team. There are also a couple of hotels in the vicinity. Langkawi is relatively small and is easy to move around within Langkawi - feel free to explore the other parts of Langkawi, an accommodation closer to the beach perhaps? Here you can find a list of accommodation places.
